Grading the Denver Broncos Offseason Acquisitions

Free Agency Signings

Headlined by the man above, George Paton and the Denver Broncos had one of the most successful free agency periods since 2014 when former Denver Broncos general manager John Elway acquired Aquib Talib, Demarcus Ware, T.J. Ward, and Emmanuel Sanders.

Now entering the 2022-2023 NFL season with D.J. Jones, Randy Gregory, Billy Turner, a returning Josey Jewell, etc. The Broncos heading into the draft addressed nearly every position of need and provided depth to a roster that was plagued by injuries last season.

  • Homerun acquisitions: Russell Wilson and D.J. Jones

  • Middle of the pack but high return/value: Randy Gregory, Billy Turner, K’Waun Williams, Josey Jewell, and Melvin Gordon

  • Decent signing and fills a need/adds depth: Alex Singleton, Kareem Jackson, Tom Compton, J.R. Reed, Josh Johnson, DeShawn Williams, and Calvin Anderson

Although the Denver Broncos are built to be contenders in the AFC conference, with a loaded AFC West division, the road to Super Bowl 57 will be tougher than ever.

Final Grade: A+ including Russ Trade. A- without Russ trade, just based on free agency signings.

2022 Draft Class

Without a first-round pick in this year's 2022 NFL draft, it was truly the time for George Paton and the Denver Broncos scouting staff to step up and find valuable prospects to add to an already stacked roster. This meant evaluating prospects and positions that had something β€œmissing” within the roster and skill-wise needed from the coaching staff.

Another need that Geroge Paton, Nathaniel Hackett, and the scouting staff were looking for was that the prospects not only provide depth but could be a part of the special teams unit as well.

Final Grade: Although the Denver Broncos hit multiple home runs with their first four draft picks and got a 2023 third-round pick. I would give this draft class a B-.

This is not to say this year’s draft class will be bad but I do question our day 3 selections and hope they prove me wrong.
