Giants Looking ahead to Eagles after win over Vikings
Minneapolis, Minnesota (PSF) — The Giants continue to shock the football world this season with their 31 – 24 win over the Minnesota Vikings in the Wild Card round. With a previous loss on Christmas Eve to the Vikings on a last second sixty-yard field goal the Giants did come into the game as an underdog but in the back of fans minds was the possibility of the Giants winning this game and they did.
Daniel Jones was the number one reason why The New York Football Giants came out as victors on Sunday evening as Jones would have the best game of his professional football career. In his first playoff game Jones passed for 301 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 78 yards as Jones controlled the best looking offensive that the Giants put out all season long.
First year Head Coach Brain Daboll deserves a lot of credit for Jones success, as numbers wise Jones doesn’t jump out the stat sheet, but being able to clean up Jones turnovers and use his quarterback to his strengths. Using Daniel’s legs as a dual-threat quarterback had Vikings defense the whole game on his heels, so much that Saquon Barkley had less rushes 9 carries with 109 total yards compared to Daniel Jones 17 rushes.
Now advancing to the Divisional round against the Philadelphia Eagles the Giants again look like underdogs against the Eagles. Having lost the two regular season games against the Eagles and getting blow out 48-22 by Philly its week 18 game that has Giants fans with some hope heading into Saturday Night. The final game of the regular season the Giants chose to rest their starters as they had nothing to play for, they made the playoffs and couldn’t move any seed up or down. It was the Eagles who had the first seed on the line which resulted in their quarterback Jalen Hurts playing that game, who missed previous games because of his shoulder injury. In his game back Hurts did not play well compared to his early season success that had him as an MVP favorite the Eagles did not play well as the Giants backup had that game close.
Heading into the Giants first Divisional round since 2011, the general prediction is the Giants losing a close one as the Eagles is just a better complete team all season. Giants’ fans seem to not care about this as it seems Brain Daboll will create an offensive scheme to go against the much better Eagles defensively. Jalen Hurts has been reported to still be having issues with the shoulder and based on the last game the Eagle’s played Jalen was affected by it. Expect the Giants to win as previous Super Bowl runs match the energy that this year Giants team has, peaking at the right time and the healthy the team been all year long. No matter what the outcome is, this season has already been successful as the Giants blown past all previous expectations for this team.
