Giants Defensive Coordinator Wink Martindale is a reported frontrunner for Colts Head Coaching Job

Robert Sabo for the NY POST

Besides the Giants Head Coach who has been given his praises from fans and the media for having an unexpected successful season, defensive coordinator Wink Martindale also have been given his flowers for his work on the defensive side of the ball. First year Defensive Coordinator for the Giants and you can see how Wink improved the defense to win games. With defensive schemes that will take away star players like Justin Jefferson in their Wild Card Game, and having the most blitz heavy playbook in the league. Coming from the Baltimore Ravens after four seasons as their DC the league was put on notice on the work Wink has done with the Giants defense.

It’s evident that the league has taken noticed and it shows with Wink over the weekend having his second interview with the Indianapolis Colts for the Head Coaching job. It would seem that the interview was positive for Wink as it is being reported that Wink is a front runner for the position. Wink is still in competition with other candidates, but with recent history of the Colts owner Jim Irsay making moves like hiring former player Jeff Saturday.

Now being reported that the Colts may consider a third round of interviews and Wink may be included. No matter the decision all Giants fans can do is wonder how will this affect the team and Brain Daboll. It was a culture change when Daboll was hired and with the help of Wink and offensive coordinator, Mike Kafka, the question is how will the team be affected if Wink does leave? Will the front office look towards the market for a new DC or hire in house? This will only be added on to General Manger of the Giants Joe Schoen β€œto do list” as he has plenty of other concerns to look at.
