Saquon and His Contract Negotiations So Far

Giants Wire - USA Today

East Rutherford, New Jersey (PSF) - Saquon has by far been one of the best running backs in league so far. He won Rookie of the Year back in 2018.

He did have a couple of rough seasons dealing with injuries.

This past season he has progressed and proven that he is still a great player in the NFL.

His timeline of contract negotiations is:

In the bye week of this past season, Saquon was offered a multi-year contract of aav of $12.5 million.

Saquon ended up rejecting that offer, so then Giants General Manager Joe Schoen then promised Saquon that they will try and figure out a contract for him in the offseason.

Saquon later stated that he doesn’t want to be the highest paid running back or a deal that affects the running back market. He wants to be compensated for the amount he has done for the team and what he can do for them in the future.

Later in the offseason before free agency started, Saquon was then offered another deal of aav $13 million. Saquon then again rejected it.

Also before free agency, on the same day that the Giants signed quarterback Daniel Jones, the Giants place a franchise tag on Saquon of an AAV of $10.1 million.

When free agency eventually arrives there were a lot of star players getting cut from their teams because of how bad the turn for the running back market was, for example Dalvin Cook.

Saquon and his team stayed firm at $16 million AAV and in the meantime the Giants drafted running back Eric Gray.

Saquon did not participate or show up for the teams OTA’s this offseason and has no intention of playing until he receives a fair long term contract.

The Giants have until July 17th, which is around the corner, to sign Saquon to a long term contract or it does not help each parties after that.
