Eagles Week 3 Takeaways

During the Eagles vs. Cowboys game this past Monday night, there were a lot of things that Eagles fans were able to learn about their team. For instance, our defense and special teams overall are pretty strong, but our offense is definitely lacking. Some of the best things for the Eagles in this game were from the defense and special teams’ side of the ball. The Eagle’s defense was able to get a lot of pressure on Dak Prescott and caused him to get sacked 4 times, hit 6, and fumble in the endzone for an Eagles TD. Our special teams were able to pin Dallas close to their own goal line multiple times and make them work harder to get down the field. Sadly, Dallas did not struggle to get down the field due to the issues with our run defense. The Eagle’s defense against the run has been very weak all season so the cowboys took advantage of that, especially with the quarterback sneaks. On all sides of the ball, the Eagles also struggled with penalties. In this game alone, the Eagles had 13 penalties for 86 yards. The Cowboys were dominating us and they just kept giving them even more help.

The main thing that would have helped the Eagles would be if Jalen Hurts and the offense were able to make plays. Jalen Hurts had a very bad game this past week and was all over the place. He was very inaccurate, held on to the ball for way too long, tried extending every play he could, took 2 sacks. Personally, I feel that Hurts either spent way too long on plays or he was too scared in the pocket and tried to force them early which resulted in some of the inaccuracy and interceptions thrown. We have seen Jalen Hurts be a pretty decent player, especially in his college career, but in my opinion, he was not fit to play this game at all. Hurts has played in very big games in his career before, but there is something special about the Eagles/Cowboys rivalry that makes a game that much more intense and I am not sure he was ready for it. Some of that could have come from the play-calling decisions which were mainly all passing attempts. That added a lot of pressure on Hurts since he had to do everything with his arm and did not have running backs to rely on as well. Overall, I hope that the Eagles team learned a lot from this very atrocious loss and are able to make a comeback.
