A Look into The Detroit Lion’s Dominant Offensive Line

Detroit has prided themselves on their offensive line in recent seasons. Having a pure pocket passing quarterback in Jared Goff, it is crucial to have a strong and dominant offensive line. The Lions’ illusive run game has been boosted by their offensive line creating space for breakout runs. The Lions have found success in their offensive talent, and a lot of that comes from the guys on the line.

Let’s start by looking at Graham Glasgow who just got re-signed to a three-year $20 million deal with $9.5 guaranteed. Glasgow played a huge role in helping the Lions reach the NFC Championship game. He has improved a ton this season and started in 15 games for Detroit. Through the ups and downs, Glasgow fought for his starting spot on this roster and is now extended to keep up the good work. Along with his extension, Detroit will be looking for a guard to bring firepower to their offensive line. Since Jonah Jackson signed with the Rams, the Lions are without one of their starting guards. They could potentially sign someone in free agency or find a guard in the draft.

Next up is Taylor Decker and he has performed great. He was listed as a Pro Bowl alternate and showed his ability as a left tackle and a receiver. On the controversial Lions-Cowbows’ game, Decker caught a pass to complete a two-point conversion. Even though it didn’t end up counting, it shows the versatility the Lion’s offensive line plays with as they have many tricks up their sleeve.

Detroit’s center, Frank Ragnow has played a crucial role in the Lion’s success. Ragnow was All-Pro and showed it. Helping Detroit’s offense become top five in both the pass and run game. A great center and offensive line are needed. In just his third year, Penei Sewell has become the best right tackle in the NFL. His impressive stats back him up as he allowed only one sack in the 2023 Season. Sewell is still young at the age of 23, yet still one of the most dominating forces of Detroit’s offensive line.

Detroit’s offensive line has proven to be one of the best in the league and will continue to be. A lot of their offensive success is in credit to their offensive line. Letting up only 31 sacks on 646 drop backs is extremely impressive and landed fourth best in the NFL for the 2023 Season. Not only does Detroit’s offensive line have All-Pro players, but they also have depth with guys like Dan Skipper. Detroit’s offensive style is unpredictable and quick. It takes the guys up front to give time and hold defenses to see the Lion’s offense flourish. After the re-signing of Graham Glasgow, it looks like Detroit’s offensive line will remain intact for another season.
