David Bakhtiari undergoes knee surgery
As a lot of Packers know by now David Bakhtiari was asked about his knee and how has it affected his playing and wants to continue playing but needs himself to be 100 percent for the 2024 training camp. He’s also said, “For me it’s been a significant storm.” The five-time All-Pro is hoping that this most recent procedure, aimed to address a cartilage problem, would allow him to return in full in 2024 and put an end to the emotional rollercoaster he's been on since rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament on December 31, 2020. I detest it.
Simply put, it's a bad scenario for everyone to be in, Bakhtiari added. "The human aspect of it required some stress and a lot of time on my part, but the clarity is knowing we finally know what the problem is, and we can treat the problem. That is, I suppose, the scenario's "glass-half-full" aspect. Thus, that is where we are. I must take the medicine.
Bakhtiari said that doctors only extracted about 10-15 percent of his lateral meniscus during the initial surgery to repair his ACL but has had a lot of discomfort and a lot of fluid buildup and had remained an issue while playing. "If you were to go and address it then, who knows if I was asymptomatic," Bakhtiari explained. "I could've been asymptomatic the entire time with that issue and by addressing it we now just added in a problem that didn't need to be. He's also said that "In my knee, it's basically like sandpaper where it rubs, it's just not smooth, which is creating a lot of fluid," Bakhtiari said.
"I've been dealing with a lot of effusion for a long time, and that's where you see the constant, I'm in and then I'm out, I'm out and then I'm in. We wanted to make sure that we could address every possible way to not do it because we understood what the surgery has to be." What he basically means that any time he plays he’s knees are like sandpaper when they rub together, which creates a lot of fluid, and the pain is unbearable for him. He goes on to say that “They have decisions to make” which is referring to the Packers Organization and goes on to say that someday he can’t live here.
