Davante Adams is Back With Aaron Rodgers
The Las Vegas Raiders are trading All-Pro wide receiver Davante Adams to the New York Jets for a conditional third-round pick, the team announced Tuesday.
The trade ends a two-plus season tenure for Adams in Las Vegas. The Raiders traded for Adams from the Packers during the 2022 offseason signing him to a five-year, $140 million contract with $65.7 million in guaranteed money. The deal reunited Adams with his college quarterback Derek Carr, who ended up making his first pro bowl since 2017 that first year with Adams. However, they finished the year 6-11 and released Carr the following offseason.
The Jets are sending back a conditional third-round draft pick that can become a second-round pick if he's either a first or second-team All-Pro this season, or on the active roster for the AFC championship game or Super Bowl. Adams restructured his contract to reduce his salary cap number to $3.21 million for the remainder of the year. Adams' salary cap hit previously stood at $11.59 million. Adams is planning to make his debut on Sunday Night Football against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
This trade comes soon after the Jets 23-20 loss to the Buffalo Bills on Monday. It was the teams first game without former head coach Robert Saleh, the first under interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich, and first under new play caller Todd Downing. With the Jetsβ offense struggling, thereβs now hope that Davante can unfasten the teams success that was expected at the beginning of the season.
