Danielle Hunter Ends Contract Dispute With Vikings
Minneapolis, Minesota (PSF) - Minnesota Vikings’ star pass-rusher Danielle Hunter came into training camp unhappy with his contract, prompting the team to make him available for trade. Hunter, 28, skipped organized team activities and mandatory minicamp this offseason in an effort to get a sizable raise on his existing $4.9 million base salary for this season. His efforts paid off.
On Monday, Hunter and the Vikings came to a one-year pact worth up to $20 million ($17 million guaranteed), according to ESPN.
The Vikings’ star pass-rusher continued his dominant play in 2023 with 10.5 sacks and 65 tackles last season for the Vikings, even after a transition from a 4-3 defensive end to a 3-4 outside linebacker under Head Coach Kevin O’Connell.
Hunter, a 2015 third-round pick, has spent the entirety of his seven-year career with the Vikings, totaling 71 career sacks and 378 tackles.
Hunter will pair with pass-rusher and free agent acquisition Marcus Davenport this coming season, who signed a one-year, $13 million deal with the Vikings in March. The former 2018 first-round pick tallied 21.5 sacks and 139 tackles in five seasons with the New Orleans Saints.
