Cowboys Trade for Stephon Gilmore
Dallas, Texas (PSF) - The Dallas Cowboys actually made a good trade for what seems to be the first time in a long time. Yesterday, the Cowboys sent a fifth round pick to the Colts in exchange for former Defensive Player of the Year and All-Pro cornerback Stephon Gilmore.
Gilmore at 32 years old is in the final stages of his career but while he may not be the lockdown corner he once was in 2019 and he can still play some ball. Gilmore was still rated as a top 10 corner in the league last season per Pro Football Focus, he is also a huge upgrade of what was a disaster of a cornerback room last season in Dallas outside of Trevon Diggs and Daron Bland.
The Cowboys play a lot of nickel in Dan Quinns defense so sliding Daron Bland the surprising rookie who had five interceptions despite only starting 8 games will be even better for Dallas. The Cowboys also resigned their star studded safety Donovan Wilson to a three year deal keeping that three headed monster of a safety group in Jayron Kearse, Malik Hooker and Wilson himself.
This Dallas secondary is looking like one of, if not the best secondary in the league after acquiring Gilmore. Trevon Diggs will still be the number one corner in the defense but will definitely learn a lot and even pick the brain of Gilmore. Trades like these don’t come around Dallas very often and what makes this trade even better is now they no longer have to address drafting a corner in the first round of the draft and will now be looking to add playmakers on the offensive side of the ball.
