Cowboys Retain Dan Quinn, Part Ways with Kellen Moore
Iowa City, IA (PSF) - After another disappointing finish to the Dallas Cowboys football season, Jerry Jones already got to work, most likely making the biggest move for the Cowboys this offseason.
Dan Quinn, who was expected to leave the Cowboys for a head coaching vacancy somewhere else across the league but has notified other teams on January 26th that he is staying with Dallas for another season as the defensive coordinator.
Quinn now gets another season to utilize Micah Parsons in his scheme as Parsons continues to get better as one of the best if not the best defensive player in the league.
Quinn will be a part of the Cowboys coaching staff for three seasons now, so seeing him stay for that third season is impressive considering what he has done with this defense in his tenure.
The next question the Cowboys will need to answer is on the offensive side as the offense performed under-par against the San Francisco 49ers.
Kellen Moore and the Cowboys mutually agreed to part ways on January 30th, then Moore took the job as the Chargerβs offensive coordinator just a day later. Reports came out that head coach Mike McCarthy will take over play-calling for the next season, but Dallas has yet to interview a candidate for the position.
Given that the offense was the primary issue this season, I see the front office of Dallas planning to focus on the offensive side of the ball this off-season with needs at receiver, and the contract issue with running back Ezekiel Elliott. Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott has been in media talks about his future, but it doesnβt look like Dak will be moved anytime soon.
If Dallas wants to experience what their division rival is experiencing now with making the Super Bowl twice in the past five seasons, then the Cowboys must be aggressive this offseason if they want to make it happen.
