Could We See These Star Players In A Patriots Uniform Soon?

Cameron Burnett

As the offseason continues, many players are being released and moved. As a Patriots fan, the question is constantly being asked; who is the next star player that the New England front office will bring in? Let’s talk about a few options.

Possibility #1: WR Jarvis Landry

Cleveland Browns wide receiver Jarvis Landry, according to reports made by Adam Schefter, is being granted permission to seek a trade by the team. Landry was a very effective receiver while a member of the Miami Dolphins, but has seen his struggles while with Cleveland the past few seasons. In the 2021-2022 season, while playing only twelve games, Landry finished with 570 receiving yards and just two touchdowns, both lower than his Pro Bowl-level career averages. But while healthy, it is believed by many that Landry can still be that star talent that he was in the past.

If he does end up being traded somewhere, could he end up in New England, who currently is in need of a solid lead receiver role? I think it could be a great fit. While QB Mac Jones is still developing and OC Josh McDaniels departing, this might be a good time to bring in some new weapons to mesh into the system. If a trade could be worked out and Landry’s price isn’t too high against the cap, I would love to see this team-up.

Possibility #2: LB Bobby Wagner

The Seattle Seahawks recently released their longtime franchise LB Bobby Wagner, which came as quite a shock around the league. Wagner had a cap hit of $16 million, so it helps free up space financially, but still is a questionable move considering just how great the star LB has been for the Seattle defense.

After his release, could Wagner maybe move to the AFC? I think it’s possible, but depending on how much he desires as a free agent, could be difficult. Last season, the superstar linebacker finished with 170 total tackles, 1 sack and 1 interception after playing 16 games. Wagner in his career is an 8x Pro Bowler, 8x All Pro, and Super Bowl champion. The 31 year old has experience, and is still very effective in the middle of the field and could still be great given the right defensive scheme. That’s why I think he could be a possible target for New England.

Possibility #3: WR Allen Robinson

Allen Robinson is a name that has been circulating in Patriots Nation for a few years now. It seemed as if the standout receiver wanted out of Chicago before he was franchise-tagged by the Bears a couple years ago. But now that he’s a free agent, I think it is actually realistic to imagine him in navy blue and red.

Last season, Robinson played a total of 12 games, not 100% healthy, and finished the season with 410 receiving yards and just one touchdown. But his potential is through the roof, and we have seen what he has been able to do given health and a good system. Robinson is a Pro Bowl talent, and I think could be a great possibility for the Patriots because after what seems like an “off” year that he is coming off of, he could be on the cheaper side as well. I think this would be a great addition for both sides of the transaction, and Patriots Nation would get a name they’ve been wanting for quite some time now.
