Colts Anthony Richardson returns to practice, progressing through concussion protocol
INDIANAPOLIS (PSF) - The Indianapolis Colts quarterback Antohny Richardson took an important step in return from his concussion on Week 2. The Colts head coach Shane Steichen told reporters that Richardson will return to practice for the first time since suffering the injury.
According to the sources, Richardson will try to go slower towards his return towards the field. Being able to go back to play after a major injury takes a while to fully heal, he stated that he is not going to try to rush things. If things go out really well Richardson could be cleared for Week 4’s contest against the Los Angeles Rams.
This is a big deal; Richardson was drafted fourth overall in the 2023 NFL Draft. At this moment he has shown his true potential on the Colts, he was able to be rushing two touchdowns early in the Colts’ Week 2 win over Houston. However, he had to leave the game once he was seeing having self-reporting concussion symptoms, thankfully he was able to go out before he tried to go a little too hard with his feet.
During his absence, the Colts veteran QB Gardner Minshew got the Week 3 start, helping lead the team towards the road to victory in Baltimore. He has shown that he has still a great amount of strength and speed on the team, he was the saving grace for the Colts while Richardson is being healed from his injury.
If Richardson is cleared, he would be the ninth rookie quarterback to start against the Rams in the Aaron Donald era. It is an impressive deal and if he is able to handle the Rams and their current roster than he is a player worth keeping for a long time. There is a great amount of hard work to be put around once he is healed up and ready to keep his pace with the other players.
