Cole Kmet Agrees to Four-Year, $50 Million Contract Extension

Chicago, Illionois (PSF)- As training camp begins to start up in the NFL, numerous players have began to receive new deals. One of those players is third-year tight end for the Chicago Bears, Cole Kmet. Chicago signed the young and upcoming player to a four-year, $50 million extension with $32 million guaranteed.

Kmet has slowly been improving, he took a jump in his second year in 2022. Kmet was known for not recording a single touchdown in his rookie campaign, he had a lot of hype as he was drafted in the second round by the Bears so the expectations were high. I’m not one to give players a pass but most tight ends in their rookie years do not produce very high numbers. The reason for this is that the tight end position is one of the more challenging positions to adjust to coming from college to the pro level. This can be said about defensive tackles, linebackers, and safeties as well. Thankfully, Kmet took the next step and caught seven touchdowns in his second year. He became a safety blanket for Justin Fields, Chicago is excited to have both players for the next couple of years.

Going into year three, I expect another leap for Kmet. I could see him having around the same amount of touchdowns as last year but expect the total yards in 2023 to increase. Kmet has yet to even record over 625 receiving yards, which he will look to do to take that next step. Also, with D.J. Moore now being added to this offense, things are going to open up for everyone else. Moore will now attract more attention leaving Mooney and Kmet to receive more catches and less attention from defenses. Watch out for Kmet in 2023, I expect him to continue to put in the work and improve on the field.
