Chicago Unveils $5 Billion New Stadium
Chicago released their plans for a new stadium this past week and it looks amazing. This new lakefront stadium is going to come at a massive price, but Chicago is getting more than just a stadium. It features green space for families to gather, along with a recreational campus. This new stadium design looks incredible and will be a great place for Bears fans and the Chicago community.
This new stadium comes at a hefty price. Estimated around $4.7 billion to build this new stadium on the lakefront. The stadium would feature a new fixed roof and would be called Burnham Park. Alongside the stadium would be 14 acres of athletic fields and a recreational park for the public. In addition to hosting sporting events, the stadium would also serve as a concert venue.
The plans to build Burnham Park will be split into three phases. Chicago is looking to break ground in the summer of 2025 and officially open in the summer of 2028. The first phase to open the stadium includes transportation, roadways, and utilities, and would cost an estimated $325 million. The second phase would give the stadium a surrounding campus and include parks, playfields, and bus stations costing $510. The third phase would include public attractions including retail shops and additional transportation costing $665 million.
The Bears have announced to contribute over $2 billion to this massive project and the rest of the money would come from the Illinois Sports Facilities Authority (ISFA). The Bears currently play at Soldier Field which is one of the current worst stadiums in the NFL. This stadium would be restored to its original scale with open athletic fields, and the historic colonnade, honoring the military men and women.
Burnham Park would be one of the largest construction projects in Illinois history. It would generate tons of construction jobs and would further boost the economy in Chicago. It will add open space, improve accessibility, and provide Chicago families and tourists a safe place to gather year-round. The project design looks amazing with a major glass wall and fixed-roof all on the lakefront. This new stadium will take a while to build, but it will be worth the wait for Bear’s fans.
