The 2020 AP NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year award winner suffered a neck stinger in the first preseason game of the season against the Cleveland Browns and missed the Washington Commanders’ first game of the season against the Arizona Cardinals. He was limited in practice on Wednesday, before practicing in full on both Thursday and Friday. Being a full participant on Friday allowed Young to not be on the Injury Report.  

The return of Young will only add to the fiery defensive front for the Commanders against the Denver Broncos. In last week’s game, Montez Sweat and Jonathan Allen combined for three sacks. Sweat also forced two fumbles while Allen had three quarterback hits and two tackles for loss. The Commander’s defense ended the game with 11 tackles for loss out of the 58 total plays the Cardinals ran. 

Commanders’ Head Coach Ron Rivera said that Young will "most likely be on a pitch count" in his 2023 debut, which makes sense since Young has only played in three games since Week 10 of  the 2021 season. Young has been battling different injuries throughout his career, a groin strain in 2020 and the ACL tear in 2021, and both Young and the Commanders’ organization hope he can contribute heavily this season. Young and the Commanders will take on the Broncos in Denver tomorrow at 4:25 PM ET.
