Another low-scoring loss got added to the Denver Broncos record this week after falling 10-17 on the road to the Tennessee Titans. Coming off of a bye-week, Denver struggled to build off of its Week 7 win in London against Jacksonville. The Broncos have now lost five of their last six. 

With just under 3 minutes to go, down by 7, Russell Wilson was in perfect position to lead a game-tying drive to force overtime. During the drive, Wilson was able to connect with Melvin Gordon and Courtland Sutton for 17 yards each in addition to a 9-yard scramble himself on 4th and 5. As Denver bordered the redzone, linebacker Rashad Weaver landed a strip sack on Wilson seemingly ending the game. Miraculously, Denver came up with possession and had one last crack at the end zone on 4th down. Trying to outrun a sack, Wilson was intercepted by Titans cornerback Terrance Mitchell, securing the win for Tennessee.

Wilson was sacked 6 times throughout the game for a total of 38 yards. He threw 21 for 42 and a total of 248 yards and one touchdown. Sutton recorded 66 yards over 6 receptions. On the ground, Denver’s running game struggled, only recording 65 total rushing yards. Impressively, the Denver defense was able to hold top running back Derrick Henry to just 63 yards and the Titans as a whole to just 17 points.. Again, proving that the Broncos’ struggles stem from the offensive side of the ball. 

After a first quarter of both teams exchanging punts, Denver scored first with a 66-yard touchdown pass from Wilson to wide receiver Jalen Virgil, who turned his first career reception into a touchdown. In the first half, there was a glimmer of hope for the Broncos as they went up 10-0. Before the half closed out, the Titans found the endzone and wouldn’t allow a Broncos score for the remainder of the game. 

The Titans now top the AFC South at 6-3 while Denver falls to 3-6. Until the Broncos offensive line can find a way to protect Wilson and the offense as a whole can match the success of the defensive corp, Denver will remain at the bottom half of the AFC West.

Next week, the Broncos will face the Las Vegas Raiders at Mile High Stadium.
