ARLINGTON, Texas (PSF) — Despite the Detroit Lions (4-1) defeating the Dallas Cowboys (3-3) by a score of 47-9, the win is overshadowed in tragedy. Star defensive end Aidan Hutchinson is now out for the rest of the season.

First reported by NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport, Hutchinson is out for the rest of the 2024-2025 NFL season due to suffering a broken tibia.

The injury occurred early into the third quarter with just under 12 minutes to go. It was just another routine defensive play for Hutchinson.

While attempting to sack quarterback Dak Prescott, his leg collided with another Lions player and fell to the ground immediately afterwards.

After the play was dead, a cart was brought onto the field to get Hutchinson to the hospital to get medical treatment.

“That’s hard for everybody when you’re standing there and that’s one of yours and something like that happens,” Lions head coach Dan Campbell said. “If you dwell on that too much and you start playing a little timid, that’s when you get hurt. So guys snapped right back in and they lived in the moment where we’re on.”

In a press release from the Detroit Lions, it was revealed that he had a successful surgery on his tibia and fibula at the Baylor White Medical Center, located in Irving, Texas.

Before the injury, Hutchinson lead the league in sacks with 6.5. Against the Cowboys, Hutchinson recorded one sack on Prescott. This puts him at 7.5 sacks and he, for now, remains the league leader in that category.

The Lions now are second in the NFC North with a 4-1 record, but now are without their best pass rusher for the rest of the season. Their upcoming games will now face an even more difficult challenge.

With upcoming matchups against the Minnesota Vikings (5-0), Tennessee Titans (1-4), and Green Bay Packers (4-2), Detroit will have to figure out how to navigate against two of the best offenses in the league in Green Bay and Minnesota without their greatest weapon on defense.
