Draft season is coming up for the Chicago Bears. Last week, we looked at Georgia Bulldogs center Sedrick Van Pran as a possible candidate for the Bears’ day two selection. One of their biggest needs is interior offensive lineman. Specifically the center position.

Another intriguing prospect is Oregon Duck C Jackson Powers-Johnson.

In 2021, he played 11 games as a reserve and then played multiple positions on the offensive line in 2022, showing flexibility for the offensive line. That is an intriguing aspect for the Bears who seem to be unable to get away from injuries to their starting offensive line, who only played a few games together this past season.

In 2023, Johnson had his best season of his collegiate career, winning the Rimington Trophy for the best center in college football.

Johnson boasts a strong frame yet nimble at times, being able to keep up with some of the best pass rushing teams in college football.

His only glaring weakness is limitations due to his somewhat smaller length. This can cause problems in engaging with defensive linemen who have a much longer reach.

In Daniel Jeremiah’s recent mock draft, he has Johnson being drafted at 19th overall to the Los Angeles Rams.

On Tankathon.com, projects Johnson being drafted by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at 26th overall. Likely if the Bears want Johnson, they will have to trade back from the ninth overall selection to get him.
