INDIANAPOLIS—The NFL Combine is this Thursday, Feb. 29 and the Bears already have been doing homework regarding prospects. In regard to another draft profile, this time the focus is West Virginia center Zach Frazier.

Frazier has started in all four years of his collegiate career. The last three being played as a C. The previous year in 2020 he played as a left guard so that brings more flexibility to a Bears offensive line who just can’t seem to stay out of the trainer’s office.

Frazier boasts a wingspan of 78-and-five-eighths inches which is just a bit smaller than Oregon C Jackson Powers-Johnson at 79 inches. He also boasts a great combination of size and speed for his frame. He is very nimble as he blocks for both the run and pass. He is especially proficient in run blocking, able to create gaps for the Mountaineers running backs. He helped his team to be the fourth best rushing offense in the country, averaging 228.9 yards per game.

He also ironically has a background in wrestling and those abilities have translated nicely in his four-year collegiate career. In his brief wrestling career, he only lost two of his matches in his four-year high school career. He also was the heavyweight state champion in wrestling for four straight years in West Virginia.

Consequently, Frazier has a few weaknesses. One of the biggest ones he has is a tendency to get baited by blitzing linebackers into overextending. His reach is also somewhat on the small side like Powers-Johnson.

CBS Sports’ Kyle Stackpole doesn’t even have Frazier in the second round of his mock draft. Tankathon’s mock draft as of now has Frazier going to the Philadelphia Eagles with the 53rd overall pick. If the Bears want Frazier, depending on how the board falls, they will either have to trade up into the second round or hope he falls into the third.
