Arrest Warrant Issued; Chiefs’ Rashee Rice Faces Eight Charges Following Dallas Crash
New details emerged this week regarding Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice, who was involved in a multi-vehicle crash in Dallas recently. One of the cars who initiated the accident was a Lamborghini driven by Rice, who now has a warrant out for his arrest, issued by the Dallas Police Department. Rice has until Thursday afternoon to turn himself in.
Rice is also facing eight felony counts from the incident – one count of aggravated assault, one count of collision involving serious bodily injury, and six counts of collision involving bodily injury. He also walked away from the scene after the crash, leaving a $16,500 check and his Chiefs playbook behind, and had marijuana in the car. The amount was not large enough to be a felony, just a misdemeanor in the state of Texas.
Rice issued a statement back on April 3 before the warrant for his arrest was out. “"I take full responsibility for my part in this matter and will continue to cooperate with the necessary authorities. I sincerely apologize to everyone impacted.”
Rice is coming off a phenomenal rookie season where he asserted himself as the number one option in Kansas City’s weak wide receiver room. If he’s not available for them in the 2024 season a glaring roster only becomes worse and becomes even more of a priority to fix in the upcoming draft.
The NFL hasn’t hinted at a possible repercussion for Rice regarding next season, and most likely won’t until more information is discovered through the legal proceeding. The only other similar incident recently happened in 2021 when ex-Raiders receiver Henry Ruggs III killed someone in a high-speed car crash. He was sentenced to three to 10 years in prison and was suspended indefinitely by the NFL. Rice’s situation obviously isn’t as bad as Ruggs, but it is expected that the league will give him a suspension, no matter the charges he's convicted for.
