Are the Bills Okay?

The Buffalo Bills have been the latest subject of many NFL fans’ insults and torment. Amongst the expected heavy hitters in this league before the season, the Bills have only made the case for a possible exit from this group more sensible. Since Week 5, the Bills have gone 2-4 in a stretch of games where they had an expected advantage over most of the matchups. Offensively, the Bills have been averaging 20.5 points per game after a dominant average of 34.8 over the first four weeks. The defensive side of the ball has been a mess as well, with key injuries plaguing this team since early on in the season. Linebacker Von Miller, albeit finally getting some snaps this past week against Denver, safety Micah Hyde, and cornerback Tre'Davious White are some notable names. Despite that, there has been some questionable play from star players and coaches that have been unexpected, to say the least. Quarterback Josh Allen’s league-leading 14 turnovers have been uncharacteristic of his previous performances. Defensive woes have caused this team to lose tightly-contested games too, as this recent defeat against Denver has been the worst demonstration yet. Speaking of Denver…

The last minute of the Broncos and Bills game is some of the ugliest football seen this season. At first, the game looks like it will end in a chaotic Buffalo win following a sack on Russell Wilson with about 30 seconds to play. A few plays later, a ticky-tacky past interference is called on Taron Johnson despite the ball being heavily underthrown. It’s a miserable sight for defensive backs when a bad ball with no chance of being caught leads to a crucial flag. In the final seconds of regulation, a Broncos field goal attempt ensues, only for it to miss off the right hash. The worst is about to come, as another game-altering flag is thrown on the field: “12 men on the field, five-yard penalty, repeat fourth down.” That’s horrible awareness on the coaching staff and players and ultimately feels deserving for the Bills despite the unfortunate PI call.

Dorsey fired

While the numbers say that Ken Dorsey has been running a top 5 offense in multiple categories, the higher-ups in the Bills coaching staff may think otherwise. A surprise firing is beginning to present a new trend within the Bills: Panic. It’s bizarre. Every game, injury, trend, and storyline this NFL season has varied week-by-week and nothing seems fully consistent or certain. Going from a game no one expected the Bills to lose to it being the reason Ken Dorsey is now fired is a rollercoaster of events. Josh Allen takes the firing personal and really puts this previous sentence into perspective.

"Without a doubt, and I take that very personally," Allen said. "It hurts a lot to see someone you care about go through a situation like that and to know that if I could have done more, if this offense could have done more, we wouldn't have had to do something like that."
