Anthony Richardson: Boom or Bust?
Gainsville, Florida (PSF) - Anthony Richardson is one of the most intriguing draft prospects of all time. He has been labeled to have boom or bust talent and scouts have described him as make or miss. Not just from a quarterback standpoint, but from an athlete Anthony Richardson has all the abilities to be a star.
Richardson played at the University of Florida this past season as a sophomore and started the year prior as a freshman. This goes to show how gifted he was coming out of high school. He is listed at 6 feet, 4 inches and 231 pounds. When you look around the NFL at current quarterbacks, their isn’t a lot that come to mind with a physique quite like Richardsons’. The main story around Richardson this past season was him not being a great leader and him disappearing late in games. I will cut Richardson some slack here, as the Gators football program has been dysfunctional for quite some time now and have kind of lost the status of being an elite team in College Football. I have watched a lot of Anthony Richardson’s film and have fallen in love with the type of player he is given his skill set. He makes the deep throws, he can read defenses pre snap and adjust accordingly, he takes the check downs or quick open routes knowing the down and distance.
The part of Richardson’s game that separates him from others is his legs. I would call him a dual threat quarterback with a rocket for an arm. My NFL comparison for him is none other than Cam Newton. Both of their play-styles are nearly identical and have a pretty comparable size as well. Cam Newton also played at the University of Florida before he transferred to Auburn University, and Cam was famous for being the Carolina Panthers quarterback during his playing career. There have been a lot of mock drafts that have Anthony Richardson going number nine overall to the Panthers. The fans would also get memorable flashbacks during Anthony Richardson’s playing career.
