Aaron Rodgers Trade Saga Finally Over As Jets and Packers Finalize Deal Just Days Before Draft Night
NYC, New York — Aaron Rodgers is finally a Jet. The long national nightmare for Jets fans is over; at least they hope it is.
ESPN’s Senior NFL Insider Adam Schefter broke news live on television Monday afternoon, announcing Rodgers’ trade to the Jets in exchange for the No. 13 pick, second- and sixth-rounders and a conditional 2024 second-round pick that can become a first if Rodgers plays 65 percent of games in the upcoming season.
For the first time in nearly 14 years, the New York Jets have a former superstar at their disposal to quarterback their team. Ironically, the last time they had such a player was the then 39-year-old Brett Favre, who was traded to them after a very successful 14-year Ironman stint in Green Bay; the same age Rodgers is being traded at following his very own 14-year Packer stint.
Both former MVPs, both controversial figures, and both a bit moody and unpredictable, there is so much symmetry between the Favre trade and the Rodgers trade. The media has already talked more than enough about this since Rodgers first announced his desire to leave Green Bay to join the Jets in March during his weekly regular appearance at the Pat McAfee show. The importance of yesterday’s news is that there is finally a closure to the circus show Rdogers has subjected Packers fans to in the last three offseasons regarding his future.
It’s a win-win situation in the sense that the Packers can finally move on to Jordan Love to end that noise once and for all, and the Jets can finally have a quarterback in their hands which they will no longer view as an obstacle they need to overcome to win games.
Although this recipe doesn’t guarantee success for the Jets, for the first time in a while, they don’t have any legitimate excuse to lean back on to justify why they suck. On the other hand, Packers fans will be more than delighted with the compensation they received knowing that they didn’t necessarily have much leverage to bargain with the Jets to begin with.
It is a rare day in the NFL where both fan bases are happy with the outcome, but as the saying goes “There is always a winner and a loser in a trade”, so we shall see how the teams will look back at this blockbuster trade in years to come.
