FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (PSF) – The New England Patriots, one day after parting ways with Bill Belichick, have signed former linebacker and linebackers coach Jerod Mayo to be their new head coach.

Mayo’s hiring comes as a true vision of loyalty to the team, and he fits perfectly as the team’s next head coach. He worked and learned under Belichick for eight seasons as a player and five as a coach. Knowing how Belichick ran the team during his tenure will prove helpful as Mayo takes the next leap in his career.

Mayo will also bring more connection and motivation to his team, as he finds himself closer to his players’ ages than Belichick. This connection could have an effect much like the that of interim head coach Antonio Pierce had for the Las Vegas Raiders.

When it comes to the on-field product, Mayo’s team will look very similar to Belichick’s a hard-nosed, physical defense that gives any offensive player a workout to get any yards out of them, paired with an explosive yet methodical offense piloted by a highly intelligent quarterback. That’s how things were when Mayo played in New England, and once he departed the team, it fell apart in a way. Mayo has the assets he needs to retool this team back into a contender in short order, and bring back the Patriots dynasty that no fan of another team missed.
