A Bears Fan’s Reaction to the Week 4 Loss to the Broncos

No matter what we do, we always find a way to lose.
The Bears somehow outdid themselves again. We actually were performing amazing on the offensive end. We had a two score lead by halftime. Then we scored one more time, after that we just collapsed. We allowed 24 unanswered points in the span of 30 minutes. I don’t even know what’s going on anymore. Time for me to rant about another loss. Here we go!

Offense

The offense for the first three quarters was amazing. Offensive coordinator Luke Getsy seemed to open the playbook against the Broncos defense and it was working.

Quarterback Justin Fields performed amazing. He threw for 355 yards, four touchdowns, and one game ending interception. He finally threw for over 300 yards in a game. His one lowlight was another game ending interception. Well that and his fumble that got returned for a touchdown by his former teammate at Ohio State in linebacker Jonathon Cooper.

Running back Khalil Herbert had struggles early on, but ramped it up as we got closer to the end. Herbert ran for 103 yards on 18 carries. He also caught a touchdown pass from Fields.

The receiving core came to play today. Wide receiver D.J. Moore had 131 yards off of eight catches for a touchdown. Tight end Cole Kmet showed why he was paid the big bucks by the Bears this past offseason. He had seven catches for 85 yards and two touchdowns. WR Darnell Mooney finally saw some action with four catches for 51 yards.

WR Chase Claypool was a healthy scratch and may no longer be on the Bears roster as they’re actively looking to shop him for a draft pick. Likely it will be a early day three pick.

We could’ve taken the lead if we had kicked a field goal. I like the call to go for it but it should’ve been a different type of play. The opposition seemed to know what was coming and boom, our chances got slimmer.

Defense

The defense looked great through the first half. Only allowing one touchdown in the first before the trauma happened. We allowed 17 points in the final quarter alone. We could not stop anything once the third quarter ended. Defense couldn’t stop the pass, barely could stop the run. Just questions all around. We finally got a sack though. Rookie defensive tackle Zacch Pickens and defensive end Dominique Robinson each had 0.5 sacks each. Other than that nothing.

Bright Side?

Because of this loss, as well as the Panthers loss to the Vikings, we now have the number one and two overall picks in the upcoming NFL Draft. Both teams are 0-4 so we have a chance to get a great WR in Marvin Harrison Jr. Or any quality defensive talent or another lineman. I feel we should definitely look at Georgia center Sedrick Van Pran. He is the best center and interior offensive line talent in the draft in my opinion. He has a third round grade so we should make sure we are in a position to acquire him in the draft to complete the line.

That’s about all I have for today. This loss doesn’t sting as much at the others but damn we should’ve beaten Denver. Our next game is this Thursday against the Washington Commanders on the road. I’ll give my prediction in the state of the NFC North article coming out later in the week.
