Recap: Halfway Through the 2021 NFL Season
As we approach the halfway mark of the 2021 NFL season, we see been nothing short interesting. From the anomaly of the Las Vegas Raiders, the unexpected slow start from the Kansas City Chiefs, and the strong play from the rookie class, this NFL season could prove to be one of the most entertaining yet.
At the halfway mark in the season, it seems as if there arenβt any prohibitive favorites for the Super Bowl and each conference is wide open. Whether it be due to teams dealing with injuries, such as Tampa Bay and Baltimore, or teams underperforming such as San Francisco, the Lombardi trophy looks to be up for grabs. However, there have been some pleasant surprises this year such as the Cincinnati Bengals led by QB Joe Burrow and rookie star WR JaβMarr Chase.
The Las Vegas Raiders fired head coach Jon Gruden and released first round picks Henry Ruggs III and Damon Arnette due to off the field issues. The Cleveland Browns released star WR Odell Beckham Jr. Green Bay Packers superstar QB contracting COVID-19 and the Packers have been fined for the handling of the situation. Another superstar QB in Deshaun Watson has been dealing with off the field issues as well and has not been able to suit up for the Houston Texans. These are just some of the notable storylines from this season.
This rookie class could be one of the best ones yet and is filled with stars. Headlining the offensive side of the ball include WR JaβMarr Chase, LT RaShawn Slater, and RB Najee Harris. The top rookie defenders have been LB Micah Parsons, OLB Jayson Oweh, and CB Asante Samuel Jr. The rookie QB class that included 5 first rounders has shown flashes as well.
While this season has been filled with drama and nonstop entertainment, some things have remained the same including the Detroit Lions being at the bottom of the league. Buckle up folks as the second half of the season should be electrifying.
