5 Fantasy Football Lessons to take into 2021

1. Fantasy Football is unbearable to variable
Fantasy Football is by far the most frustrating fantasy sport, but it's also so much fun because you have to work hard to fight its variably. How many times does a projected RB12 finish the week as RB40. If you have that player in that moment, it seems like the most frustrating thing in the world. Inevitable, you will have players that bust for you. It's normal, but by making trades and waiver wire moves, you can find a way to mitigate that variably.
2. The waiver wire continues to be crucial to success
Guys like James Robinson, Justin Herbert, Brandon Aiuk, and Justin Jefferson were most commonly found on Championship teams in 2020. What do they all have in common? They were all added off the wire. Every year Fantasy Football shows us that no matter how you drafted, making the right moves can win you a league.
3. Nothing is too difficult to overcome
I tip my hat to the great Matthew Berry for this one. Fantasy Football got a lot more challenging if you had guys like Christian McCaffrey, Saquon Barkley, or the many other players that got their season taken away in 2020 by injury to get to the title. You had to believe and find every possible way to get that title last season. You had to look even more deeply at the rankings and projections, find the best trade, and look at the waiver wire more intently. These teams that won the title in 2020, drafting these players showed that in fantasy, you can find a way to win your league no matter what your team looks like.
Nothing is too difficult to overcome. Come to think of it, that is a great life lesson as well.
4. ADP Battle
Did you draft Stefon Diggs, Josh Allen, or Antonio Gibson at their projected ADP? All of these players significantly outperformed their ADP in 2020. While this is hard to figure out as you are drafting, there will always be players that outperformed their ADP. If you're lucky enough to get one of those players, it will go a long way towards a title.
5. Having a good bench is more important than we think
With the 18 game schedule in 2021, some of you might be playing playoff games during players' bye weeks, and with all the injuries we endured in 2020 and covid issues, that will continue. Building a solid bench will allow you to be flexible in all situations. So that the back end of your draft that you feel is less important than the front end might just end up being the reason you win your league in 2021.
