BYU Storms Past University of Arizona with 41-19 Win, Taking Charge in the Second Half!

On Saturday Oct. 12, BYU claimed victory against Arizona State 41-19, gaining a powerful advantage during the second half, overall securing a victory at LaVell Edwards Stadium. The win continued the Cougars winning streak to 6-0, while the Wildcats fell to 3-3 .

The first quarter started with Arizona quarterback Noah Fifita connecting with the wide receiver Montana Lemonious-Craig for a 14-yard touchdown early on in the game at 3:27 in the first quarter, an outstanding 95-yard drive done by the quarterback and wide receiver. BYU responded early within the second quarter, Jake Retzlaff (QB) found Parker Kingston (WR) for a 20-yard touchdown, leading to the game being tied at seven.

Shortly after, BYU took control with a crafty play, scoring a 33-yard touchdown pass from Parker Kingston to LJ Martin, putting the Cougars ahead 14-7. Retzlaff extended the lead to 21-7 in the third quarter, connecting with wide receiver Chase Roberts for a 9-yard score. A couple of field goals by kicker Will Ferrin further pushed the Cougar lead to 27-10.

During the third quarter, BYU took advantage on a fumble that they were able to recover with the Retzlaff throwing a 9 yard touchdown to Chase Roberts (WR), furthering their lead to 21-7. As for Arizona, Tyler loop (K) was able to contribute two field goals, this victory would be short lived as BYU responded with another score from Martin gaining a 1 yard touchdown run; furthering their lead to 34-13. Later in the game, Arizona’s Running back Quali Conley was able to find locate the end zone, but BYU’s linebacker Isaish Glasker’s intercepted at 21 yards

During the last quarter in the game, Arizona’s Quali Conley was able to locate the end zone, but Isaiah Glasker’s 21-yard interception return ultimately delivering the final blow and sealed another victory for BYU.

Ultimately, Arizona struggled to find a good rhythm for their offense through the game, while BYU's high-powered defense putting constant pressure proved to be too much for Arizona
