thanksgiving day drama: Seton HAll takes down Memphis at the buzzer
Orlando, Florida — The 3-1 Seton Hall Pirates faced off against the 2-1 Memphis Tigers for Thanksgiving NCAA Men’s Basketball play. They faced each other in the quarterfinal round of ESPN’s Invitational Events in Orlando, Florida.
Dre Davis gave Seton Hall a six-point advantage with less than ten minutes to go in the first half; however, the Pirates did not score in the last four minutes, allowing Memphis to get back in the game. Memphis was down three with less than four minutes left to play, and they went on a 5-1 run to secure the 31-30 lead heading into the break.
Memphis led the entire second half, up until the final moments of the game. Tyrese Samuel banked a three in with 2.3 seconds left of play, giving Seton Hall a one-point lead, and ultimately the win.
Besides his game-winning three-pointer, Samuel scored a team-high 14 points and grabbed a team-high 11 rebounds. This led him to his first career double-double. To say he got it done on both ends of the court would be an understatement.
Besides Samuel, Dre Davis and Tray Jackson had huge performances for Seton Hall. Both players combined for 23 points in the game.
Seton Hall moved to 4-1 on the season with this Thanksgiving day win over the Memphis Tigers. Coincidentally, Seton Hall won four straight games on Thanksgiving Day. Hall, that is something to be grateful for!
