Gonzaga wins big against UCLA

Last night college hoops fans had the privilege of witnessing a matchup between number 1 ranked Gonzaga and number 2 ranked UCLA thanks to the Good Sam Empire Classic. This matchup comes only 8 short months after Gonzaga beat UCLA in the Final Four of the 2021 March Madness Tournament. Gonzaga beat UCLA in overtime with an insane buzzer beater by Jalen Suggs to knock UCLA out of the tournament.

The game itself didn’t live up to its hype due to it being so one-sided. From the opening tip, Gonzaga was firing on all cylinders, going up by 10 within the first 5 minutes. Throughout the majority of the game, the Zags sat on a comfortable 20 point lead and won 83-63.

To kick off the Good Same Empire Classic, UCLA beat Bellarmine 75-62. Offensively, UCLA moved the ball well with 23 assists from the team. Freshman Peyton Watson scored a team high of 19 points while coming off the bench for the Bruins. Myles Johnson played well in the paint with 11 rebounds and 3 blocks.

Gonzaga beat Central Michigan on Monday night by scoring a season high of 107 points. Senior playmaker, Drew Time scored 11 points with 7 rebounds. 7 footer, Chet Holmgren scored 19 for the zags shooting 100% from the charity stripe.

UCLA travels to Las Vegas to face UNLV on Saturday at 5 pm ET. UNLV has 2 losses against Wichita State and Michigan, but are undefeated at home so far.

Gonzaga takes on undefeated, 5th ranked Duke on Friday at 10:30 pm ET at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The matchup should be an entertaining watch as both teams are projected to win their respective conference.
