Los Angeles, California (PSF) - On Tuesday, in the 20th round of the MLB Draft and the 610th overall pick in the stage of the draft you’ll never hear about, the Los Angeles Dodgers made waves with their late round draft pick. Los Angeles drafted college football standout and current Oregon State quarterback, DJ Uiagalelei. College Football quarterbacks have been drafted into the MLB several times as he joins names like Tom Brady, Kyler Murray, Jameis Winston, Russell Wilson, John Elway, and countless others. The late round selection of Uiagalelei comes as a slight shock as unlike the names previously mentioned, he hasn’t played organized baseball since he left high school several years ago. However, prior to his time at Oregon State he was recruited to play baseball along with football at Clemson as they assumed they were bringing a 6’4” right handed pitcher whose fastball sat at 95 mph. Bleacher Report wrote an article about DJ’s future in 2019 titled “THE KID WITH THE GOLDEN ARM” where it compares DJ Uiagalelei to stars like Cam Newton and Roger Clemons. Dabo Swinney had even set up a schedule to make life easier for the future dual sport athlete, however Uiagalelei decided to not pursue and focus full time on football. Though he has stated baseball to be his first love and the draft pick is intriguing, the chances he decides to leave the game to join the Dodgers organization are slim to none.

Despite struggling at times and perhaps not living up to the expectations given to him when arriving at Clemson, DJ is still a very talented QB who is looking to make up for lost time at Oregon State and submit himself as a key arm talent in the 2024 QB draft class. He’s joining an already successful team who was just a playmaker away from competing for a PAC-12 title.  He will also be alongside the highly touted QB coach, Jonathan Smith, who had a great reputation of developing raw talent at the quarterback position. The future is bright for DJ Uiagalelei after struggling at times at Clemson but it feels as if he has found the right fit for him at Oregon State. However if that doesn’t workout, the Los Angeles Dodgers have offered him a new career path if he chooses to take it.
