College Football Rankings-week 10
The College Football Playoff Committee has released their first rankings after Week 10 of the College Football Season.
Georgia 8-0 (6-0)
Georgia has been a force to be reckoned with so far this season. With a perfect 8-0 record, nothing seems to be stopping the Bulldogs. Even with their starting quarterback, JT Daniels getting injured early on, the bulldogs continued to roll on. Backup quarterback, Stetson Bennett has thrown for over 1000 yards and 12 touchdowns. Georgia has only scored less than 30 once this season, but their defense has also been a big part of their success. In 8 games, Georgia has only allowed an average of 15 points per game.
Cincinnati 8-0 (4-0)
Cincinnati has had a season to remember so far this year, but they are not done yet. The Bearcats are looking to be the first school from a non-power 5 conference to make the playoffs.
Alabama 7-1 (4-1)
After suffering a shocking loss against Texas A&M, Alabama’s hopes of a perfect season were put to rest. There is still hope for the Crimson Tide though, since they will likely face Georgia in the Conference Championship if they win out. If Alabama does beat Georgia, there is a chance the two might meet again in the College Football Playoffs.
Oklahoma 9-0 (6-0)
Since benching Spencer Rattler for Caleb Williams, Oklahoma seems to be unstoppable. Williams has even been talked about for Heisman, even after only playing in 5 games.
Michigan State 8-0 (5-0)
Michigan State knocked off Michigan last week taking more than just the Paul Bunyan Trophy. With that win, Michigan State sits at the top of the Big Ten, but in order to make it to the Conference Championship, they still have to go through Ohio State and Penn State.
Ohio State 7-1 (5-0)
Ohio State lost to Oregon early in the season, but have since been perfect in conference play. They will have a chance to fight for a spot in the Big Ten Championship by playing both Michigan and Michigan State.
Oregon 7-1 (4-1)
With Oregon’s only loss coming from Stanford, they are sitting at the top of the Pac-12. The Ducks looked like possible playoff contenders when they beat Ohio State early in the year, but Stanford not being a quality loss might hold them back.
Notre Dame 7-1
Cincinnati killed Notre Dame’s dreams of a perfect season this year and will likely be a resumè game for the Bearcats as they hope to make the Playoffs.
Michigan 7-1 (4-1)
Michigan suffered a tough loss last week against their in-state rival, Michigan State. The Spartans will have another chance to prove themselves against their rival Ohio State.
Wake Forest 8-0 (5-0)
Wake Forest seems to have come out of nowhere this season as they find themselves at number 1 in the ACC. The sky is the limit for the Demon Deacons, as they fight to keep their winning streak alive. They have yet to face North Carolina State or Clemson, who both desperately want to knock off Wake Forest. If Wake Forest is able to finish the season undefeated, with a Conference Championship, there will surely be a Playoff spot waiting on them.
Oklahoma State 7-1 (4-1)
Oklahoma State started their season with 6 straight victories, and looked like they might have a chance to knock off Oklahoma for the Big 12 Championship. Even after a loss to Iowa State, they have still yet to face Oklahoma, who is currently 1st in the Big 12.
Auburn 6-2 (3-1)
Auburn lost to Penn State early on in the year, but since their only conference loss comes from Georgia, they are sitting in a comfortable spot at 2nd in the SEC West. If Auburn is able to beat their next 3 opponents (Texas A&M, Mississippi State, and South Carolina) their final game against Alabama may decide who goes to the SEC Championship.
Texas A&M 6-2 (3-2)
Texas A&M is responsible for Alabama’s only loss, but because of their two losses against Arkansas and Mississippi State, they are tied for 3rd in the SEC West. The Aggies will have a chance to prove themselves in the next couple weeks as they will face Auburn and then Ole Miss.
Baylor 7-1 (4-1)
Baylor has had a pretty good season so far with 7 wins, and their only loss being on the road against a ranked Oklahoma State. With the same record as Oklahoma State, Baylor finds themselves tied for 2nd in the Big 12, but they have not yet faced Oklahoma, who is 1st in the Big 12.
Ole Miss 6-2 (3-2)
Ole Miss is currently tied for 3rd in the SEC West, with victories over Arkansas, Tennessee, and LSU. However, it’s their two losses against Alabama and Auburn that will likely keep them out of the SEC Championship.
UTSA 8-0 (4-0)
Being from Conference-USA, even if UTSA finishes the year undefeated, they still likely will not make the College Football Playoffs. On the bright side, UTSA locked down coach Jeff Traylor by signing him to a $28 million deal that runs through 2031. Traylor is 15-5 in his 2nd season at UTSA, and with his 8-0 start this year, he has tied the program record for wins in a season.
BYU 7-2
BYU has had a solid year beating 2 ranked Pac-12 teams early on. (Utah and Arizona State) Their two losses come from Bosie State and their future conference opponent, Baylor.
Kentucky 6-2 (4-2)
Kentucky started the season on fire with 6 straight victories, but after a humbling loss to Georgia, and another one to Mississippi State, the flame seems to be put out.
Iowa 6-2 (3-2)
Iowa started the year 6-0 earring them a ranking of 2nd in the nation after beating an undefeated Penn State in week 6. Since then, Iowa has lost to Purdue and Wisconsin in back-to-back weeks.
Houston 7-1 (5-0)
Houston started out the season with a close loss to Texas Tech, before winning 7 in a row. Last week, Houston beat 19 ranked SMU in the final seconds by returning a kick off return 100 yards for a touchdown.
Coastal Carolina 7-1 (3-1)
Coastal Carolina is sitting at 1st in the Sun Belt East with 7 wins, and their only loss being on the road against Appalachian State.
Penn State 5-3 (2-3)
After starting out the year 5-0, Penn State found themselves ranked at 4 in the nation by both AP and Coaches poll. Now, after 3 straight losses to Iowa, Illinois and Ohio State, the likelihood of Penn State finishing in the top 4 appear to be 0 to none.
SMU 7-1 (3-1)
SMU started out the season 7-0, but after suffering a tough loss at Houston last week, they have moved down to 3rd in the American Conference behind Houston and Cincinnati.
Louisiana 7-1 (5-0)
Louisiana is currently sitting at 1st in the Sun Belt Conference. With their only loss coming in week 1 against a ranked Texas opponent, the Cajun Cajuns have put up 7 straight Wins.
Fresno State 7-2 (4-1)
After beating 21 ranked San Diego State last week, Fresno State has found themselves ranked at 25. The Bulldogs are currently 1st in the Mountain West Conference.
