Big 12 Week 5 Picks
Oklahoma @ TCU (OU -6.5)
Oklahoma will have a lot of things to work and fix in the week between Kansas State and TCU. The good thing for OU is that TCU has a similar offense to KSU, which is run-dominant and has a limited passing quarterback. This can also be bad if the issues from the KSU game are not fixed, leaving OU in a similar situation. I hope I am wrong on this pick, but OU rarely has two bad games in a row. They will fix their problems against the Wildcats, win the game, and cover the spread.
Pick: Oklahoma -6.5
Oklahoma State @ Baylor (BAY -2.5)
This has a great chance of being a possible Big 12 Championship game matchup. OSU has not only had a bye week, but the last game they played was against Arkansas Pine-Bluff, which was an easy win. Spencer Sanders didn’t even finish the first half before he was pulled. So it’s been over two weeks since the Cowboys had a meaningful game to play. On the other hand, Baylor is coming off a road victory against a physical Iowa State team. They will be at home, which can help spur the team forward. The game will be close, but Baylor will get the win.
Pick: Baylor -2.5
Texas Tech @ Kansas State (KSU -8.0)
Both teams are coming off monumental wins and could be in line for a letdown. Kansas State gets the benefit of playing at home. The offenses are the opposite, and I trust KSU at home if Martinez can play an intelligent game and not have to be the difference by passing. KSU gets the win, but Tech will cover the spread.
Pick: Texas Tech +8.0
Iowa State @ Kansas (ISU -3.0)
This game is a toss-up for me. Kansas hasn’t played a team such as Iowa State that will play physical and tough defense. ISU will pose the first real test for KU’s high-flying offense. If this game were in Ames, it would be an easy pick for the Cyclones, but since it is Lawrence, I am drawn to Kansas. I will take the points and Kansas to cover.
Pick: Kansas +3.0
West Virginia @ Texas (TEX -10.0)
Texas is suffering from injuries, with Ewers still being out, and now Xavier Worthy is considered day-to-day. West Virginia will have a couple of extra days to rest before they make the trip to Austin. Relying on Bijan Robinson too much with Card having to play will be the downfall for the Longhorns. JT Daniels is getting more acquainted at WVU, and they will get the win outright.
Pick: West Virginia +10.0
