Lexington, Kentucky (PSF) - On June 1st, 2023, it was announced that the University of Kentucky men's basketball team for the 2023-2024 season was going to be full of younger players than it has been in the past. Out of the seven players who committed on June 1st, five of them are freshmen. Five of the freshman that have committed are ranked in the top forty of recruits. Two of the players who were supposed to sign with Kentucky have decided to try and go pro.

With this roster being so young, critics have been wondering what it would mean for Kentucky Basketball. Head Coach John Calipari addressed the public stating that “We’ve prepared for all scenarios and can now move forward.” Although he might say this to the public, his team is the youngest and now currently the smallest team in college basketball with only seven players committed.

Due to COVID-19, there are a lot of athletes taking a sixth year in athletics. This is causing more action in the portal and older experienced athletes are wanting to transfer to a better school for their last year.
