Lebron James: Historic upcoming Season

Could this year be the greatest individual year for an NBA player?

LeBron James has a chance to make history, not only on the all-time points list but on the all-time assists list. James is going into his 20th year in the NBA. We've never seen anyone perform up to his standards for 20 years.

Many believed no one would ever break Kareem Abdul-Jabbar's record of 38,387 points. However, James is proving why he is one of the greatest players ever to play the game of basketball. James is only 1,325 points away from passing Abdul-Jabbar for the number one spot on the all-time scoring list. So, what will he need to average this season to get the number one spot?

Since joining the Lakers, James has played an average of 56 games per season, the same number of games he played during the 2021-2022 season. So let's say James plays his average 56 games this season. He would only need to average 23.7 points per game to become the number-one scorer in the history of the NBA. James, who holds 27.1 points per game for his career and put up 30.3 points per game last season, hasn't averaged under 25 points per game since his rookie season. So it's safe to say that James has an excellent chance of breaking the record next season.

However, even though James will go down as the number one scorer in NBA history, most people consider him a pass-first player. He currently stands at number seven on the all-time assists list with 10,045. Throughout James's 19-year career, he has averaged 7.4 assists per game. If James plays 56 games this season, he would only have to average 5.2 assists per game to jump to the number four spot on the all-time assists list. He would pass Magic Johnson, who has 10,141 assists, Mark Jackson with 10,334, and Steve Nash with 10,335. It would be exciting to see James pass both Abdul-Jabbar in scoring and Magic in assists in the same year while rocking that Lakers jersey. It only seems right.

James moving up in both the scoring and assists list is enough to make a season historic. But he has a chance to make it one of the greatest seasons we have seen from a player. If he could lead the Lakers to another title while passing two Laker greats in the same season, it would be a top-three season of all time. It would put James at five rings, and everyone knows he is chasing that ghost in Chicago, Michael Jordan.

After a tough 2021-22 NBA season, James is ready to get his revenge on the league and remind everyone that he is the best player in the league.
