Why the Kelly Oubre Signing Was Exactly What the Philadelphia 76ers Needed

Kelly Oubre recently signed with the Philadelphia 76ers for the minimum. This is an absolute steal for Philadelphia as they were in desperate need for some added bench depth. The 76ers biggest struggle in both the regular season and playoffs was their lack of bench scoring. Oubre has proven throughout his career that he can be a high level scorer including last season where he averaged over 20 points per game. Now Oubre probably won’t get as many opportunities to score the ball as he did in Charlotte but he is absolutely capable of scoring somewhere near 12 points off the bench for this 76ers team.

Oubre also becomes extremely valuable as a player who can sub into the starting rotation and end game rotation when necessary. This is especially true regarding PJ Tucker who is 38 years old. Tucker’s play has slowly been declining the last few years and it is safe to say his play may take an even bigger drop this season due to his age. There are also injury concerns for Tucker as it is harder to stay healthy at his age. Oubre can be the perfect guy to sub in when necessary and give an offensive spark. Come playoff time Philadelphia will be glad they have Oubre as an option to mix things up.
