Why the Brooklyn Nets Would be the Perfect Fit for Damian Lillard
Amid adding G-League Ignite Point Guard Scoot Henderson with the third overall pick in the most recent NBA Draft, rumors have already been circulating on whether Damian Lillard will stay in Portland or get traded to another franchise. Most notably, the Miami Heat and the Brooklyn Nets. However, the Brooklyn Nets would be the best trade destination because the Nets have a collection of solid players like Mikal Bridges, Cameron Johnson, Spencer Dinwiddie, and Dorian Finney-Smith from the Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving trades, and Center Nick Claxton, who is one of the leagueβs best shot blockers and led the league in field goal percentage. A comparison to this scenario would be Donovan Mitchell getting traded to a Cleveland Cavaliers team that narrowly missed the Playoffs in 2022 but then playing the best basketball of his career and leading the Cavs to a fourth seed in the Eastern Conference. Therefore, Lillard, who is already a great all-around scorer for the Blazers, especially behind the arc, provides a franchise player that the Brooklyn Nets will need to fill in the void left by Kyrieβs departure. A trade with the Miami Heat would not work out well because the Heat is structured as a team with many strong role players but is primarily led by Jimmy Butler, who maintains the lion's share of possession, and adding Lillard to the mix may ruin the teamβs chemistry. Therefore, adding Lillard to a team where he is the primary scoring option while surrounded by other teammates who can carry the load would be the best fit for Lillard heading into the near future, and the Nets have all the resources needed for Lillard to make an immediate return to prominence in the Eastern Conference.
