Why Jayson Tatum Will Win the 2024 NBA MVP Award

In 1956 the NBA began handing out the MVP award to the best player during a particular season. This award was voted upon by NBA media members. Over time, as this award has been handed out each year, the voters started to vote more so based on narrative. After a while, the voters get tired of voting for the same player over and over again, so they like to keep the voting fresh. There are occasions where players will win two or sometimes even three straight MVPs, but this is very rare. LeBron James, who was arguably the best player in the NBA for ten straight seasons during his career, only won four MVPs.

Going into this season, it is clear that the two best players in the league are Nikola Jokic and Giannis Antetkounmpo. The chances that one of these players is voted as MVP, however, isn’t too high. Like I said earlier the voters constantly like to shake up who wins MVP and tend to not vote for multiple-time winners unless they are without a doubt deserving of it. Jokic and Giannis have both won two MVPs each, which means it is very likely that a new candidate will come about. Jayson Tatum fits the build the most for a player who hasn’t won the award yet and also plays for a team that will be competing for a top spot in their respective conference. With the voters set on picking someone new, Tatum seems like the most likely candidate to take home the MVP award next season.
