Whats Next for the Boston Celtics
After a disappointing season, the Celtics find themselves in a weird situation. They have most players under contract and star players up for extensions. The Celtics have already improved their coaching staff by adding Sam Cassel and Charles Lee. They both bring championship experience and have been around the game for a long time. I am going to take you through what I believe the Celtics should do to be NBA Champions.
Extend Jaylen Brown-Supermax Contract 5 years/295 million.
It is very hard to find two-way superstars in the NBA, and with Jaylen Brown being one of the superstars in the league, the Celtics need to keep their 26-year-old superstar Brown in Boston. There are a lot of rumors on trades involving Brown, but I donβt understand it. Considering you have one of, if not the best, duos in the NBA, plus both players are under 26 years old. Brown and Jayson Tatum will be a duo for many more years to come.
Trade!
Celtics acquire Kristaps Porzingis for Malcolm Brogdon and Payton Pritchard.
One of the main things going into the offseason is finding a veteran big man, and Porzingis is the perfect addition. There have also been reports that one of the guards is on their way out the door, which I think will be Brogdon. Brogdon did win sixth man of the year, but he is coming off a very poor playoff and the Celtics owe him a lot of money, which I think they could use in a more important need. Porzingis offers elite shooting and shot blocking to command the center position for the Celtics.
NBA Draft
The Celtics hold the 35th pick in the NBA Draft after trading their first-round pick for Malcolm Brogdon. I believe the team should look at two players to take a flier on in the second round. Amari Bailey (UCLA) and Marcus Sasser (Houston) both are young guards who can develop in the Celtics system similar to JD Davison.
Free Agency
The first move I believe the Celtics should make this offseason is letting Grant Williams walk. He will be demanding a large sum of money from the team and for a player like Grant Williams who didnβt play a whole lot in the back half of the season, I donβt believe it is worth it.
Gallinari accepts his player option. Adds more shooting and versatility to this roster another reason to let Grant Williams walk.
Sign veterans to help the young core and sparks off the bench
Players to look atβ¦
Chris Paul (If Released by the Suns)
Caris LeVert (Cavs)
Bruce Brown (Nuggets)
Josh Hart (Knicks)
Naz Reid (T-Wolves)
Kenyon Martin Jr (Rockets)
Patrick Beverley (Bulls)
Montrezl Harrell (76ers)
Although these moves are unlikely, I believe this is how the Celtics should go about their offseason.
