What Exactly should the Blazers do with the 7th Pick…?
Let’s be honest here, with this pick the Blazers were not rewarded as handsomely for tanking the last sixty percent of the season as they thought they might be. At seven in this years draft they won’t be able to select a potential generational talent with franchise altering upside, however they do have other options worth exploring via trade.
The Blazers are in deep need of two positions a strong wing player who can defend and an athletic four who can play crunch time minutes at the five. A dream scenario for this team would be a trade with the Hawks, the seventh pick for John Collins and the 16th pick with a chance to select Tari Eason from LSU, a near perfect role player and wing for this team.
However, that might seem like a steep ask for only the seventh pick, so the Blazers would certainly have to give up another player or future draft stock, both of which can be done. The next option would be a straight swap with the Raptors, pick seven for OG Anunoby, another player who can defend, has playoff experience, and can play multiple positions that would fit in great with this Blazers team of shooters.
The only downside to this pick is Anunoby’s health as injuries have been a nagging problem for him. Finally the most basic option would be to select someone with their pick like a Shaedon Sharpe or AJ Griffin type of wing, someone with the potential to grow into a player like Anunoby.
Any way you slice it the Blazers need multi-position defenders and fast, getting the best quality players who fit that mold should be the number one goal this offseason.
