Warriors back in a familiar place

The Golden State Warriors are going back to the NBA finals after a 120-110 Game five win over the Dallas Mavericks in the Western Conference Finals. It will be the sixth time the Warriors are reaching the finals in the last eight seasons, which is a statistic that few teams in NBA history have ever been able to accomplish. 

Over the past two seasons, the Warriors core has been plagued with injuries, which caused the team to struggle and eventually miss the playoffs. This surely contributed to the team’s success and want to get back to the top of the western conference where they had been for so long. 

The Western Conference finals never seemed to be close, as the Warriors took a quick 3-0 lead in the series. This seemed to be the end for the Mavericks, as no team has ever come back from being down three games in a best of seven series. 

The Mavericks never gave up and were able to avoid the sweep, taking game four behind a 30-point performance from Luka Donjic in game four.

Back home in the Bay Area for Game five, it seemed that the Warriors were going to close out the series on their home floor. The Mavericks continued to put up a good fight during the game, but were eventually overpowered by the shooting performance of Klay Thompson who scored an impressive 32 points. 

Steph Curry won, rightfully so, the Western Conference Finals MVP award after the game five win. Curry averaged 23.8 points per game and 7.4 assists per game during the series.

The Warriors will be looking to win another NBA title in the coming weeks as they are set to face either the Boston Celtics or Miami Heat once the Eastern Conference Finals is settled.
