We are about 2 weeks away from the start of the NBA Playoffs and the race for league MVP is close and could go to anyone of these 3 players.

The top 3 in the race is Joel Embiid, former 2x MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo, and reigning 2x MVP looking to win his third straight Nikola Jokic. You can make a case for anyone so i’ll breakdown each guys stats this year and their team record.

Joel Embiid is having one of his best years this year and just balling like he always does. This year he’s averaging 33.2 points, 10.2 rebounds, and 4.2 assists with nearly 2 blocks a game. Percentage wise he’s shooting 54.4% from the field, 34.0% from 3 and 85.6% from Free Throw.

His team the Sixers are currently 3rd in the East with a record of 50-26 and looking pretty good and ready for the playoffs. The previous 2 seasons people argued he should’ve won the award and this year is no different.

Next we got former 2x time league MVP and my opinion best player in the world Giannis Antetokounmpo who’s leading the number 1 Bucks in the east with a 55-22 record. This year he’s putting up a career high of points avg 31.1, 11.8 rebounds, and 5.6 assists while shooting 55% from the field.

This year thanks to Embiid and Jokic Giannis has been the third wheel and I think it’s kind of unfair because he’s made a good showing of winning his third MVP. Even though this is a regular season award out of these 3 he’s the only one to win a championship and Finals MVP.

Lastly we have the reigning and defending back to back league MVP Nikola Jokic. Right now he’s leading the best team in the west the Denver Nuggets with a 51-25 record and showing why he could make history this year. His averages are followed: 24.9 points, 11.9 rebounds, and 9.9 assists which is outstanding.

Another things that’s impressive is that he’s shooting 63.4% from the field and almost 40% from 3 which for a big man is remarkable. You can also make a case that without Nikola numbers, flashy passing and consistent shooting the Nuggets are nothing without him.

You can make an argument for any of these 3 fabulous players and I think it’ll be Jokic who’ll take the award. If Nikola wins the MVP for a third straight year he’ll be the first man to accomplish the feat since Larry Bird when he won the award from 1983-1984 to 1985-1986. Personally the award should go to Giannis because if you look at how each guys team is structured around them Giannis to me is the most valuable.
