The Case of Miles Bridges

Charlotte Hornets restricted free agent forward Miles Bridges was charged yesterday with domestic violence and child abuse after his alleged attack on June 27 and 28 in their Los Angeles home. It was reported that Bridges attacked the mother of his two children, Mychelle Johnson, who said she suffered a concussion, a broken nose, and was choked until she passed out while her children were present. In her social media post, Johnson also explained that their two children were not physically harmed during the attack.

Johnson described her attack in several posts via Instagram, saying, “I hate that it has come to this, but I can’t be silent anymore. I’ve allowed someone to destroy my home, abuse me in every way possible and traumatize our kids for life.”

"I have nothing to prove to the world, but I won't allow anyone who could do something so horrible to have no remorse and paint a picture of something I'm not. I won't allow the people around him to continue to silence me and continue to lie to protect this person," said Johnson.

According to the District Attorney's release, the case "includes an allegation of causing great bodily injury on the domestic violence victim." Los Angeles County District Attorney, George Garcon, stated, "Domestic violence creates physical, mental and emotional trauma that has a lasting impact on survivors." He added, "Children who witness family violence are especially vulnerable, and the impact on them is immeasurable."

In a press release made yesterday, the Charlotte Hornets said, “These are very serious charges that we will continue to monitor,” adding, “As this is a legal matter, we will have no further comment at this time.”

Bridges is scheduled to be arraigned today in Los Angeles County Superior Court.
