Taking A Look At Paul George To The New York Knicks

As we officially enter the dog days of summer but have yet to reach the beginning of the National Basketball Association (NBA) free agency, we reach a very interesting period where it is always hard to separate fact from fiction.

The season has ended, the draft has passed, and the new league year is yet to begin, we have officially entered the prime of the rumor mill.

Over the next few weeks, we will begin hearing countless tidbits about players joining new teams. While it may be impossible to know which rumors are facts, with nothing going on around the league, these rumors provide interesting opportunities for speculation and analysis.

Today, I would like to take a look at one of those rumors which have gained some traction these past few days; Paul George to the New York Knicks.

However, even if we toss the health question aside and assume full health for the remaining two years on his deal, I am still unsure if this move works for the Knicks.

Despite a surprisingly strong year for the Knicks, it is quite clear the Knicks are far off from winning a title. Even with the exact same roster plus Paul George, the Knicks would likely struggle to contend. Given that the Knicks would have to move key pieces to acquire George, those small odds of contention only continue to drop.

George undoubtedly makes the Knicks a better team. He would immediately become their best perimeter player on both ends and arguably the most impactful. However, when factoring his health into the equation, his age, and the fact that the move would not push New York into contention, I don’t think this would be the right move right now for the New York Knicks.
