Golden State Warriors superstar point guard, Stephen Curry, reportedly plans to return from his lower leg contusion injury Sunday against the Lakers. Curry has been sidelined since February 4th when the Warriors played a home game against the Mavericks. Along with the leg contusion he suffered in that game, he also had partial tears to his superior tibiofibular ligaments and interosseous membrane. The Warriors have gone 5-4 without the two-time MVP and have won four straight.

Before injury, Curry averaged 29.4 points per game, 6.4 assists, and a 42.7 3-point percentage in 38 games.

The Warriors are currently in 5th place in the West with a record of 33-30 and are a half game ahead of the Dallas Mavericks and a game behind the Phoenix Suns. It’s a crowded Western Conference right now and there’s a lot of competition.

There have been a lot of blockbuster trades in the West since Stephen Curry got injured. Soon after he got injured, on February 6th, the Brooklyn Nets traded their superstar guard Kyrie Irving to the Dallas Mavericks to join fellow NBA superstar Luka Doncic. In exchange, the Nets received Dorian Finney Smith, Spencer Dinwiddie, a 2029 first-round pick, and second-picks in 2027 and 2029. This move certainly didn’t help the Warriors’ place in the standings.

Three days later, the Nets traded their other superstar Kevin Durant to the Phoenix Suns in exchange for Mikal Bridges, Cam Johnson, Jae Crowder, and four future unprotected first-round picks. The West has certainly gained a lot of star power since Curry went down. The four-time NBA champ and his team will be playing against a very different looking conference. Will they still be successful and make a deep playoff run? Only time will tell.

In the Warriors-Lakers game on Sunday, the Warriors are currently a 5.5 point favorite. Another notable injury is Lebron James, who suffered a right foot injury and will be sidelined for approximately three weeks, with a reassessment after two weeks. The game will tip off at 3:30pm ET at the Chase Center in San Francisco.
