Should the 76ers Consider Trading Joel Embiid?
The drama surrounding James Harden and the Philadelphia 76ers will not go away, as Harden continues to make comments that pressure Philadelphia to make a move. The situation between Harden and the 76ers seems unfixable, and a trade is almost inevitable. The 76ers have already struggled to compete with the duo of Harden and Embiid, but if you trade away Harden for role players and assets, it will become even more difficult to compete, which may eventually lead to Embiid requesting out.
Embiid won the MVP last season, so trading him one off-season later certainly would not be ideal. Embiid, however, has never made it out of the second round in his stint with the 76ers and may be looking for something new. For the 76ers' side of things losing James Harden will almost make it impossible to compete for championships in the near future. The 76ers donβt have the assets to trade for another star, and at the same time, running back with the same core minus Harden will only make them finish worse than they did last season. Hitting the reset button and trading Embiid may be the only logical move. The return for a player like Embiid would be an all-time great package of draft picks and young players, and the 76ers will once again start the process from scratch.
