PREDICTING VICTOR WEMBANYAMA’S ROOKIE SEASON AND NBA CAREER

Victor Wembanyama is the most hyped-up draft prospect in recent memory. Though his height and weight vary by numerous sources, Wemby’s most accurate size is 7’4 and 230 pounds. Wembanyama's most similar size and skill archetype in the modern NBA is Washington Wizards' Center Kristaps Porzingis. Porzingis stands at 7’3 and 240 pounds and has a fluid three-point shot, a soft touch around the rim, and the athleticism to attack the rim and dunk over defenders. This season, Wembanyama averaged 21.6 points, 10.4 rebounds, and three blocks per game for Metropolitans 92 in the LNB Pro A, the top-tier league in French Basketball. Wembanyama will likely average 19.6 points per game during his rookie year in the NBA, averaging around 20.1 points throughout his career. Though Tim Duncan and David Robinson both averaged over 20 points per game during their rookie seasons with the Spurs, Wembanyama may not surpass this mark, though he may come close, mainly because both Duncan and Robinson are smaller and have more muscle while Wembanyama is rail thin and may be more at risk for injury than both. Wembanyama will also reach at least seven All-Star Teams and win at least one championship with the Spurs if he lasts long enough. Though he can easily run the floor, Wembanyama is also a streaky shooter from behind the arc, but this will improve as his career in the NBA matures. Defensively, Wembanyama could also average over three blocks per game for multiple seasons and grab over ten rebounds. Defensively, Wembanayama will average 12.3 rebounds and 3.2 blocks per game during his rookie year in the NBA. Wembanyama is a generational talent, and it will be marveling to see how his career will turn out within the next couple of seasons in the NBA.
