Predicting Award Winners for the 2023-24 NBA Season

Mark Terrill

Even though the upcoming NBA season is still a few months away, it is never too early to predict the winners of the major awards. Here is what it could potentially look like:

MVP- Shai Gilgeous-Alexander

This may come as a bit of a surprise to some people, but don't sleep on SGA and the Oklahoma City Thunder. They have done an excellent job rebuilding over the last few years, and they made a big leap last season as well. With Chet Holmgren coming back after his injury, and with several solid young players such as Jalen Williams, Cason Wallace, and Josh Giddey, look for OKC to be a top-five seed in the West. This should be more than enough for SGA to snag that league MVP award.

DPOY- Anthony Davis

Anthony Davis has been one of the best defensive players in the league for the past decade. Despite this, he has never won a DPOY award. Some of it may have to do with the injuries and some may also have to do with his lack of playoff success before coming to LA. However, Davis displayed some of the best defensive dominance we may ever see in the playoffs this past season. If he can stay healthy, expect him to carry that same defensive effort into next season on his way to a DPOY award.

MIP- Alperen Sengun

Sengun is one of the most fascinating big men in the NBA. He has a unique touch around the rim and is one of the best post-games in the league. He also is an exceptional passer for his position. With new head coach Ime Udoka and experienced vets like Brooks and VanVleet coming in, expect Sengun to develop even more as a player and become one of the best centers in the league next season.

COTY- Tyronn Lue

Coach Lue has been a part of the NBA for a long time. He had success as a player and is now also one of the best coaches in the NBA. The Clippers, when healthy, have arguably the deepest roster in the league and are poised for success. If Kawhi and Paul George can stay healthy, this roster led by Lue has championship potential and could pave the way for Lue to win his first Coach of the Year Award.

6MOTY- Malik Monk

Malik Monk played a pivotal role in the Kings' resurgence last season. He provided a huge scoring and playmaking boost for his team as they went on to be the second seed in the West. Not only this, but Monk was also phenomenal for the Kings in the playoffs and powered their backcourt alongside DeAaron Fox. One of the most confident players in the NBA, expect Monk to pick up where he left off and earn himself a sixth Man of the Year award.
