Paul Reed Staying With the 76ers

The Philadelphia 76ers had a decision to make on Sunday night. Match the Utah Jazz’s three-year $23 million deal for 76ers backup center Paul Reed, or let Reed, who has become a fan favorite amongst the rigid Philadelphia fan base, go. Reed, nicknamed “Bball Paul,” is one of the few young players on the 76ers roster from last season that showed promise for the team moving forward.

The 76ers listened to the fans that took to social media on Saturday and Sunday once the news broke. The 76ers just signed Mo Bamba and re-signed Montrezl Harrell last week as backup centers. So for backup center Paul Reed, this may mean a position change and a new role on the team. The backup power forward role could be a spot that Reed might change to and run the floor with likely Mo Bamba, De’Anthony Melton, and Patrick Beverley. Most likely, the small forward role will be the last position (along with James Harden) on that second unit that the 76ers need to address before the season starts. Reed needs to work on his outside shooting to become an adequate power forward on the team.
